Cinematheque Kadıköy

There is a parking lot and residential buildings in the building block located at the intersection of Moda Tramway and Moda Street in Caferağa Neighborhood, Kadıköy, which is adjacent to Kadıköy Vocational and Technical Anatolian High School and the French Catholic Church. The residential buildings surrounding the parking lot and high walls make this area inaccessible to the public. The Mühürdar Karakolu Street, which intersects with Moda Street and leads to Moda Beach, cuts through the buildings in the area and the church structure behind it cannot be perceived. In addition, at the end of this street, which leads to Moda Beach, we encounter a view of the Historical Peninsula.
The main criterion adopted in the project was to reveal the view and the church structure that can be perceived from Mühürdar Karakolu Street and to design a structure that is lower and more transparent on the facade of the residential buildings facing Moda Street instead of high walls. The existing trees in the area were preserved, and Istanbul's erguvan trees, which reflect the city, were proposed in the landscaping. The passages on the lower floors of the buildings on Moda Street were continued, and the masses covering this area on the upper floor were considered to be pulled back on the ground floor. The colors used in the building were determined by taking inspiration from the facades of the surrounding buildings.
